Emergency Food Distribution Reaches 50 Vulnerable Families in Wardheer, Sanaag Region

In response to the looming food insecurity caused by prolonged drought conditions, Talobeeg Foundation has mobilized an initial emergency food distribution to vulnerable families in Wardheer Village, Sanaag region of Somalia.

Severe rainfall failure, declining livestock productivity, and rising food prices have pushed many households into crisis. Families are struggling to meet their basic food needs, and urgent support is required to prevent further deterioration.

A total of 50 households from the most extremely affected communities were identified through community-based targeting. Each household received:

  • 50kg of Rice
  • 50kg of Sugar
  • 50kg of Flour
  • 6 Liters of Cooking Oil

The selection prioritized:

  • Women-headed households
  • Child-headed households
  • Families with large numbers of dependents
  • Households caring for sick members
  • Elderly-headed households

This intervention aims to provide immediate relief and stabilize food access for the most vulnerable.

While this support brings temporary relief to 50 families, the needs remain overwhelming. Many more households across Sanaag and neighboring areas are facing severe food shortages.

The most critically needed assistance includes:

  • Food support
  • Safe drinking water
  • Cash assistance (where local markets are still functioning)

Cash-based support can be an effective and dignified solution in accessible areas, enabling families to prioritize their most urgent needs.
